2008 Holiday Greens |
Dear Band Family: Today we begin our annual greens and poinsettia sale. We will again be using Sherwood Forest Direct Delivery for the greens and Behnke Nurseries for the poinsettias. These suppliers consistently provide plants and greens that are beautiful, long-lasting and of the highest quality. The Greens are ordered on-line at www.marchingstatesmen.org and are shipped directly to you, your friends, and your family members in the second week of December. You will not need to pick-up or deliver any items that you order. Items for sale include wreaths, garlands, door swags and centerpieces and are a great way to send a holiday greeting or decorate for the season. Be sure your orders are in by November 10th. If you do not have computer access, we will enter your orders for you! Return your order form by November 10th. The Poinsettias are available in 4 colors (red, white, pink and marble) and 3 sizes. These plants are always beautiful and make wonderful gifts. They instantly make any room look more festive. Please complete and return the order form by November 10th. The poinsettias will be delivered by Bhenke's to Marshall High School on December 3rd and be available for pick-up that afternoon. You or your student will be responsible for picking up the plants and delivering them to your customers. The money from this fundraiser goes directly into the band program! Your efforts enable us to continue to support our band students and program as we assist in the purchase of instruments, supplement sectional instruction, sponsor guest performers and conductors as well as promote advanced music instruction. Every family is expected to sell a minimum of 5 items or pay $50 for a "non-participation option". Checks for non-participation should be made payable to GCM Band Parents with Winter Fundraiser Fee in the memo line and are due on November 10th as well. As a thank you for their effort with this fundraiser, this year every student will have 15% of their total poinsettia sales applied to any of the spring band trips. This percentage increases to 25% for any student selling more than $500 in poinsettias. Also, any student who sells has the opportunity to pre-board the bus for our spring trip, beat the crowd and choose their seat. Parents, we need your help! Please support this fundraiser by ordering greens and plants for yourself, your family and friends. Consider giving greens and poinsettias as gifts to coworkers and clients. Students, these greens and plants are easy to sell! Your teachers, neighbors, family, friends of the family and even your friend's mom will all want to support you, your spring trip and your band. ASK THEM: "Would you please buy a beautiful holiday poinsettia or some greens. Your purchase will help the GCM Band as well as help me pay for my spring band trip." The holiday poinsettia sale ends on November 10th. Please turn in orders with payment by this date. Checks should be made payable to GCM Band Parents. Customers may pay with credit card by ordering online at www.marchingstatesmen.org and choosing "greens and poinsettias." Remember to indicate which student's account should receive credit for the sale. Cash is fine, too! You may contact Michelle Hanna at (703)442-7710 or greenspoinsettias@marchingstatesmen.org with any questions. Thank You!! Please stay tuned! We will have the PayPal buttons up for ordering by Posted Oct 10, 2008 |

| How to be Artsy Smartsy |
US News & World Report included a great article in its issue for "America's Best Colleges 2007". Here's an abstract… "Consider the student who wants to pursue the arts. In addition to worrying about grades, standardized tests, and essays, an applicant for a selective program must often act, sing, or dance before judgmental faculty members. Or submit a portfolio of drawings or fiction. That's a lot of stress for a college career that could lead to a life of waiting tables." We have included the full article here (PDF). Thanks to Susan Malik, GCM's College and Career Resource Specialist, for sending this article on. Posted Feb 13, 2008 |
